Coaching for Performance

A manager has 2 roles, getting the job done and growing the people. Often managers are so busy focusing on the immediate task of getting the job done that they forget, or don’t find the time, to grow their people. Paradoxically if people aren’t being developed and engaged they will need more input from the manager and take up more of their managers often find themselves troubleshooting and unable to delegate because they haven’t got the time to train their people……resulting in managers who are incredibly busy and can’t train their people…. and so the cycle continues. When managers have better coaching skills people will continue to learn and develop, they will be more engaged and perform better.

Public Personnel Management* cited a study that compared training alone to coaching and training: Training increased productivity by 22.4% Training and coaching increased productivity by 88%
