Founded in 1818, Leander Club is the world's oldest and most renowned rowing club.
Since the 1970s Leander has been at the forefront of British rowing at international level. Through its policy of identifying and nurturing young rowing talent, Leander oarsmen and oarswomen have earned regular success at the Olympics and World Championships. In recent years the Club has been home to Olympic giants such as Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Matthew Pinsent, James Cracknell, Tim Foster, Steve Williams and Ed Coode. THE CLUBHOUSE
In addition to unrivalled rowing facilities, Leander provides a unique venue for its members and guests, not only at Regatta time but throughout the year. The Clubhouse reflects a strong sense of pride in Leander's achievements and the Club's history is immediately apparent from the impressive trophies and honours boards that line its comfortable rooms. The Clubhouse has recently been totally refurbished and much extended and now provides an attractive, well-equipped and welcoming riverside venue, whether for dining, accommodation, meetings, weddings or private parties.
The Leander Club, Henley-on-Thames Powered by GMaps and Google HOW TO FIND US Directions from each of the main approaches to Henley are as follows: FROM THE M4: Leave at Junction 8/9 and follow signs along the A404(M) motorway spur for approximately 2 miles before taking the lefthand sliproad signposted to Henley along the A4130. Follow these signs for a further 6 miles and eventually you will come down the long White Hill at Remenham. As the road levels out you will pass the Little Angel pub on your right - after a further 100 yards take the unmarked turning to your right, immediately before Henley Bridge. Leander Club is now on your left and the club car park on your right. FROM THE M40: Leave at Junction 4 onto the A404 Marlow by-pass; after 3.5 miles take the slip road to the left for the A4130 to Henley. Turn right at the next roundabout, proceed for a further 5 miles and, as you come down White Hill, Remenham, follow the directions as above. FROM OXFORD: Take the A4130 into Henley town centre, and follow the one-way system which turns left down New Street to the riverside. Follow the road around the right hand corner to the traffic lights at Henley Bridge, turn left over the bridge, and turn left again immediately after crossing the river. Leander Club is now on your left and the club car park on your right. FROM READING: Take the A4155 into Henley town centre and at the second set of traffic lights turn right down Hart Street and follow the signs for Maidenhead. Immediately after crossing the Bridge, turn left and the clubhouse is now on your left and the club car park on your right. |
